Alabama Unemployment Benefits Qualification

If you want to receive unemployment insurance benefits in the state of Alabama, you'll need to pass a qualification process. The requirements protect the unemployment system from being abused, and from having funds drawn by people who do not need unemployment benefits or have other options. In order to collect unemployment in Alabama, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be unemployed through no fault of your own. If you have been fired from your job, or quit voluntarily, you are not eligible for funds.

2. Have earned enough money by working in the state of Alabama as an employee during a base period to qualify for a claim. The earned income requirement is determined by your wages during the base period.

3. Be available and able to work. If you are unable to work due to a disability or other limitation, you are ineligible to file for unemployment.

4. Be actively searching for employment. Actively searching for a job means more than just browsing internet listings. Be sure you have submitting your application or resume to businesses before filing.

If you are in doubt about your qualifications, it is best to apply for benefits as your eligibility status will be identified through the application process.
